From Addiction to Leadership: Hien’s Bold Step Beyond His Comfort Zone

For 16 years, Lê Ngọc Hiền’s life was gripped by drug addiction. Despite countless attempts from his family to help him, he could not break free—until one life-changing moment of prayer when God met him.

“God heard my prayer and He came to me. And it was God who helped me to get rid of that addiction,” Hien shares.

That encounter not only freed him but also redirected his path. God called him back to the church, where he began supporting families in faith, helping them stay strong together. What started as leading a small group of 12–15 people grew into an even greater calling.

Breaking Out of the Comfort Zone

When his pastor encouraged him to step into a larger leadership role, Hien hesitated. The responsibility of serving a bigger church felt overwhelming. But through the Global Leadership Summit (GLS), he was challenged to grow.

“You cannot be a great leader if you want to remain in your comfort zone. Leaders break the comfort zone,” Hien explains. Inspired by this challenge, he embraced his new role—leading not just a small congregation, but a bigger church community with boldness and faith.

A Life of Service and Mission

Today, Hien serves full-time at The Blessing Church in Hanoi, where he leads the Bac Ninh Blessing Church and assists Pastor Pham Duc Trung in both media and social work ministry. His passion extends beyond the city into missionary trips, reaching remote areas to support people in need.

In July, he witnessed the impact of stepping out of the safe zone when he spoke to a gathering of nearly 300 young people—encouraging them to pray and grow in faith.

“I have dared to get out of my safe zone. What about you? Do you dare to do this with me?” Hien challenges.

Faith, Family, and Leadership

Hien’s story is not just about personal recovery—it’s about stepping into God’s call with courage. Supported by his wife, a preschool teacher, and inspired by his two daughters, Hien continues to serve faithfully while carrying a passion for empowering the next generation of leaders.

His favorite verse, Matthew 6:33—“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”—anchors his journey.
